make it (patch) work!

corduroy patchwork copy-

Patchwork is the process of stitching smaller pieces of fabric together to create a larger piece, and has been found throughout history in all cultures around the world, with oldest depictions apparently dating from 5,500 years ago in Egypt and China.

Originally a thrifty way to use scraps of fabric, the 1960s saw patchwork being adopted by mainstream and designer fashions via hippy culture, and has remained a perennial staple on the catwalk ever since. Recently it's had another resurgence in fashion, on and off the runway, partly because of it's sustainable implications and the rising popularity of DIY fashion.

For the brave among you why not try full on quilting… in classic checkerboard, freestyle or even a mosiac pattern!

There are LOADS of free tutorials for patchwork on youtube but if you want to a pdf then head to etsy for quilting patterns from indie businesses… like Beginners Quilting Club.
